A Peek Inside of Beacon Hill

October 19, 2017

Most people my age are beginning to downsize. They're selling their large family homes for lower maintenance condos and town-homes. While these empty-nesters are planning their next travel adventure, my husband and I are planning a new adventure of our own.

When you have a large family that includes a husband, three children, six grandchildren, and three horses; downsizing was simply not an option. We purchased 20-acres of land nearly two years ago, and have since been dreaming and designing every detail to make Beacon Hill the perfect home for our endlessly growing family. (I see more grandchildren, dogs, and horses in our future)

I've had many people ask me what our home will look like, will it be a two-story or a ranch? And how am I going to decorate it? Now that the plans are complete and the framing has begun, I'm ready to share our ideas as we build. So, what better place to start than the layout of Beacon Hill? As you can see from the plans, a two-story was the winner!

While designing the house, one thing that was important to us was to enjoy the views from every room. Watching the horses graze in the pasture, or the turkeys and deer gathering in the apple orchard dictated where the house would set. Having a talented landscape designer for a husband made this process a lot easier. We knew the sun room would be placed near the old oak tree where our grandchildren already love to swing and watch for birds. This room will be our favorite for sure.

Another important room to us is the family room. As our family grows, the holidays have become a little crowded, so we needed a larger space that would accommodate the Christmas tree, the presents, and the people in the same room. The kitchen will be another exciting room, but more about that later.

After spending a gazillion dollars on board for three horses, we are thrilled to have our barn just yards away from our front door. Our sixteen year old is over the moon to be able to wake up to her horses every day. Stay tuned for the next phase as the frame goes up and the windows and doors get installed!
